This instrument is made for the VEMD hardware made by Sim Innovations, and simulates the VEMD software for the Airbus Helicopters H120 / Eurocopter EC120. The hardware consist of two so called lanes, lane 1 and lane 2. The top lane, lane 1, moves to lane 2 in case lane 1 is turned off or fails.

Lane 1

Power up / boot up

The lane will power up when a bus voltage of at least 12 volts is present in the simulator aircraft. It will go through a boot cyclus and when the engine is not running present the engine page. If the engine is running, it will continue to the FLI page if all conditions are met.

Engine page

Engine page

The engine page is shown at start up, until the NG (N1) reaches 60%, after which it will show the FLI page. At shutdown it will revert to the engine page when the NG drops below 60%. When the NG drops below 10% and the rotor RPM below 70 RPM, you will be presented with a flight report.

FLI page

The FLI page is presented when NG reaches 60% or more. The FLI needle shows a combination of several values, combined into one. In normal flight conditions the FLI should be below 10. The page also shows fuel quantity, NG, T4, TRQ, bleed-air valve indicator and outside temperature. By pressing the SCROLL button, you can go back and forth to the engine page. In case lane 1 is turned off, the FLI page will move to lane 2.

Lane 2

Power up / boot up

The lane will power up when a bus voltage of at least 12 volts is present in the simulator aircraft. It will go through a boot cyclus and present the vehicle page.

Vehicle page

The vehicle page shows engine oil temperature and pressure, battery or generator voltage and load, fuel flow and flight time for the remaining fuel quantity. By pressing SELECT you can switch between battery and generator data.

Flight report

When ever the condition 'NG below 60% and rotor speed below 70 RPM' is met, a flight report will be displayed. This report shows:

  • Flight number (incremental)
  • Time from > 60% NG until < 50% NG
  • NG cycles from current flight and total
  • NF cycles from current flight and total
  • If occurred a message 'OVER LIMIT DETECTED' will be displayed

Press RESET to go back to the vehicle page.

Failures

When lane 1 is turned off or has failed, the FLI or engine page moves to lane 2.

Settings

Various settings can be made, which change the behavior of the instrument(s).

Unit

Imperial / Metric: Determines if the outside temperature is shown in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Fuel unit

This determines what unit is used for the fuel quantity and fuel flow.

Fuel quantity

  • Kilogram / Pounds: When the unit is set to metric, kilograms will be shown, if the unit is set to imperial, pounds will be shown.
  • US Gallon: Fuel quantity is presented in US gallons.
  • Imperial Gallon: Fuel quantity is presented in imperial gallons.
  • Liters: Fuel quantity is presented in liters.

Fuel flow

  • Kilogram / Pounds: When the unit is set to metric, kilograms/hour (KGH) will be shown, if the unit is set to imperial, pounds/hour (LBH) will be shown.
  • US Gallon: Fuel flow is presented in US gallons/hour (GUSH).
  • Imperial Gallon: Fuel flow is presented in imperial gallons/hour (GIMH).
  • Liters: Fuel quantity is presented in liters/hour (LTH).

Usable fuel quantity

This is the maximum usable fuel (all tanks) quantity in liters. By default this is set to 406 liters.

Software version

This is the software version number shown in the test screen.

Maximum generator amperage

The maximum generator amperage in Amps. A red line is shown below the generator amperage if it goes above the chosen limit. The options are 150, 180 and 200. By default the instrument is set to 150.

Oil pressure unit

Change this to the unit that is used by the simulator, either PSI or BAR. The value displayed on the VEMD will remain BAR.

Mode

Determines if this instrument runs in top mode (lane 1) or bottom mode (lane 2). Normally this shouldn't be changed.

Brightness factor

This is a multiplier for the button backlight, with a maximum of 1. The brightness value is taken from the simulator and multiplied with the brightness factor, a lower brightness factor will give a lower maximum backlight brightness. NOTE: The brightness is controlled by lane 1, so setting this only works if you set it on lane 1.

Powering down

To power down the VEMD hardware, press and hold the OFF1 button for at least 3 seconds. Note that this completely turns off the hardware, and electrical power has to be removed and reapplied for the device to boot.
