I opened a ticket with Sim Innovations, but I’m posting here in case anyone has any ideas on how I can resolve the issue below…
I am having issues with Air Manager 4.2.11 with MSFS2020. I’ve used it successfully in the past, but recently moved my copy of the licensed Air Manager software back to a different computer. Everything seems to work as expected until running a panel with MSFS2020 (I have all of the most recent updates).
When opening any panel in Air Manager (the default Cessna 172 for example), I cannot “send” anything to the simulator. Switches do nothing. Knobs (for example, the heading indicator bug knob or altimeter setting knob) give the mouse cursor to operate them and the knob itself on the panel turns, but the corresponding gauge (heading bug or altimeter setting) does not change in the Air Manager panel or in MSFS2020.
With the Air Manager panel open, when manipulating the controls from within the virtual cockpit of the sim itself - everything seems to function correctly. So for example, when turning the heading bug knob in the MSFS virtual cockpit, everything mirrors correctly in the Air Manager panel (heading bug changes, switches change position, gauges indicate etc). So it seems to me that in my case, MSFS can feed Air Manager, but Air Manager can’t write commands or changes to MSFS.
I followed all of the steps on the Connection Issues part of the wiki and have the Windows firewall disabled. I’m running Air Manager and MSFS2020 on the same PC. I also tried doing the manual connection, reinstalling Air Manager, the Air Plugin, and even reinstalled MSFS. In all cases the Air Manager states “Connected to FS2020” and a the Air Plugin fs2020_log appear to confirm this (as well as the fact that the sim is feeding updated data to Air Manager).
I’ve used the program in the past without this issue. I did see on a website where someone had the exact same issue as I am experiencing, but the message thread does not contain a solution. Here is a link to that discussion

I’m really hoping someone can help me… I’ve really looked everywhere I can to find an answer prior to opening the ticket. Hopefully Sim Innovations is responsive with their support.

Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
I wish I could give more detail, but I uninstalled P3D from my PC (which i dont use) as well as uninstalling the Air Plugin (again) and reinstalling, and now it seems to work again normally. I wish I knew exactly what fixed it so I could help others, but I hope this somehow gives a clue to the next person...

Sounds like a regular network issue.
Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
I am experiencing the same issue in MSFS. I see the buttons animating but do not update the sim. I used the 172 heading and adf instruments. When changed in the sim the instruments update, both when flying and also when updating the heading, etc. in the sim. When trying to update the heading in AM, I get the button animations both using touch and mouse, yet the heading bug does not move and the sim doesn't update either. It has been two days of struggle getting this to work.

Same thing. See our wiki for the connection issue guide.
Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
I have followed everything in the guide including it being on a private network. AM is running locally in any case and have tried running where it detects the sim and running where I hard code the IP to 127.0.0.1. It obviously finds the sim since it is able to show information (like heading changes, rpm, etc.) but actions don't go to the sim.
Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
Reading over the connection issue troubleshooting, I see it says localhost is also regarded as network, so I will try turning off the firewall to see what is has. I already have the plugin enabled for network access and I can connect and provide input from the iPad Air Manager app. Does the Air Manager desktop app also require firewall access rules?
I will try these variations tonight when I get home. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
The best option to test it is to turn the firewall off temporarily. Did you also run the plugin installer again?
Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
I did reinstall the plug-in. I also removed and reinstalled air manager. I have a hunch the air manager being allowed to communicate through the firewall is the problem, since it can receive from the plugin but not send to the plugin. I have added the plugin to the FW, but not Air Manager itself.
Re: Issue: Air Manager 4.2.11 connected but not sending to MSFS2020
Issue has been resolved. Allow the plug in and air manager through the firewall fixed the issue. Thanks Ralph for your assistance
