Garmin 650Xi Blank Screen

#1 Post by turbinetester »

Hi, i'm a very new user to the software. I set up a basic panel to mimic my trainer aircraft and all the steam gauges seem to be responding normally, as well as the radio and transponder, but the Garmin 650Xi i have in the panel is not responding. I have tried it with teh Inibuilds Diamond DA20 and the Asobo Beechcraft Bonanza which is outfitted with a G1000 suite. Is there something i need to do to enable the 650 to work?

It's only an overlay. Please see our wiki:

Ok, so if i'm reading the wiki correctly, this is a bezel overlay that allows me to control the "in sim" panel with the air manager touchscreen/knobster interface. Thus it will only work if the aircraft i'm flying has this specific panel already installed, is that correct? In my case the in game panel is an older Garmin 350 (i think?) panel rather than the 650xi, which is what is in the plane i fly in real life for training. So is there a way to put this together for the inibuilds Diamond DA20, or another DA20 already in the game that doesn't have a stock 650? Can you edit stock panels in MSFS? I'm pretty new to all this and obviously unfamiliar with many aspects of how to get this all working. I don't need to have a perfect model of my IRL aircraft, i just would like something close enough to it that it feels basically the same so i can practice things i need for my checkride is 5 weeks. Thanks for any help :)

Hey @turbinetester in regards to the GTN650Xi in FS2020.
In order to get these working in FS2020 you need a plugin that enables those GTN's in the Flightsim. There are two options. Both with pro's and cons.
The first is PMS50.com (it's a GTN750 but I think they also simulate a GTN650, you need to check their website to be sure) and then there is TDSsim.com
TDS simulates both the GT750Xi and GTN650Xi. Now again for the pro's and cons I refer you to Google or Youtube.
You can test PMS50 for free in a basic version. TDS is always paid I believe.

Now once you have those plugins running you can choose a bezel in AIR manager. This bezel controls the plugin popout window. In FS2020 you can popout avionic windows with RIGHT ALT + primary mouse click on the panel in the virtual cockpit. Once you have that popout you can position it perfectly with pull and drag behind the bezel of AIR manager GTN instrument.

Now the thing that I am not sure of is if you can use these plugins in ANY plane. I think it needs to be compatible with your aircraft addon. They normally have compatibility lists on their website.
But I don't think you can integrate it youself for let's say in the DV20 from ASOBO or the Inibuild DA20. They both have a stock GNS430.
Good news is that these bezels are also available in the AIR manager downloads. Just search for GNS530 or GNS430. Same principle applies. Pop them out in the virtual cockpit and position them below the bezels.

Does that somehow answer to your questions?
If anything else, let me know.

Regards,
Pieter

Yes this makes a lot more sense now. The AM bezel just gives me the ability to CONTROL the unit with the bezel, but to dispaly the unit i need to use a "pop out" in FS2020. So what i'm a little hazy on is why do i need the PMS50 or TDSsim plugins, if there is already a GTN 650/750 in the plane? Do i only need those plugins to enable a GTN 650/750 if they aren't in the stock MSFS2020 aircraft?

Hi,

Yes stock ASOBO as far as I am up to date currently only has a built in GNS530/430 and G1000 and then some other things I don't know the name of but no GTN stock.
So the add on builders implement the 3D bezel and connection to the PMS and TDS plugins. Please if you need it for training read into it because both have advantages and downsides. One is build from scratch and one is based on the Garmin official trainers. So dive a little deeper in the subject before buying stuff.

But most add on planes that support the GTN's, offer both options.
The A2A PA24 for instance. But always double check because most digital items are not refundable.

Hope this helps.

By the way airplanes that are stock will not support those GTN plugins. Unless someone made a mod for it.
Also the fun thing of these AM bezels is that you can get these knobsters from Sim Innovations. And they controls those bezels.
So you press the rotary to select it on the touch screen and then withe the knobter hardware you can physically rotate with the dual encoder. I have one (for obvious reasons lol) and its super fun. Compare to mouse clicking in bumpy virtual cockpits haha.

OK, reviving a sort of dead topic but it's more relevant now. Ive finished my real world PPL and moving on to instrument training. I've paid for the TDS pro app. Is there a guide or video somewhere on the easiest way for ey to start flying and training in a C172 with a 650/750xi with minimal fuss? I don't mind buying an add-on plane but i'd like to be able to just "turn things on and fly" as much as possible. I have the premium Cessna 172 Panel from the Sim Innovations store, and can use the default premium panel for the "left" panel in my dual touchscreen setup with Knobster, and was hoping i could get the 750/650 on the right monitor with Radios, XPDR, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you.

Hi Turbinetester,

You can basically create a simpel panel with the resolution of your second monitor.
- So what you do is you go to the "HOME" tab in Air Manager, click on + panel and then choose blank panel.
- You select the display it needs to show on or any custom resolution
- Once this panel is created you just rename it to whatever makes sense for you and you scroll down into the settings
- There you can either enable or disable a knobster for this panel
- And you can choose "TRANSPARENT" as background color (important because you have to work with FS2020 popouts)
- Once down click on + instrument with this panel selected
- Search for "GTN" and you can select one of the options you want. TDS is the Xi version of the GTN750/650
- Once done, you relocated the instrument inside the panel
- You hit show panel (lightbulb icon) and drag the popouts underneath the cutout
- You should now be able to control the in sim GPS'es with the panel you just made
- Same technique goes for the transponder but without any popout stuff (you can search for "TRANSPONDER")
- Same for radio's (Bendix is used often in Cessna's for example)

If you need more help or in case I misunderstood the issue you are having, please let me know.
I can make a video for you to help out or try to asemble something for you from what is free available in the community downloads.

Best,
Pieter
