[SOLVED & RPi Pico Issue] NANO - CH340 - Win 11 - Flashing issues / RPi Pico communication issue MessagePort

#1 Post by SimPassion »

Hi

here's a feedback after attempts to flash Arduino NANO with CH340

At first, even if the NANO is present and well seen by Windows 11, Flashed in a previous step on another PC with Windows 10 either using AM 4.1.6 or AM 4.2 BETA 31, on my Laptop and Windows 11 this is another story : Air Manager either 4.1.6 or 4.2 BETA 31, doesn't see the board as available in the Left Home pane

Now, when starting flashing process it still bring the related COM13 port in the dropdown list

AM_4.1.6_Win11_Flash_Issue_02.jpg

After clicking on <Flash> button I get this error :

AM_4.1.6_Win11_Flash_Issue_03.jpg

Not to say, I've tried to download and install newer CH340 from original site :
https://www.wch-ic.com/downloads/CH341SER_ZIP.html
from https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/ho ... rivers/all

This one seems outdated, as of 2017 :
https://sparks.gogo.co.nz/ch340.html
from https://siminnovations.com/forums/viewt ... 546#p31546

Then, the question :
So, do you have any idea why it don't work on Windows 11, with both AIr Manager Final and Beta ???? 🤔 (meanwhile I've flashed a Leonardo Genuine and a Mega 2560 clone with CH340, without any issue on Windows 11)

Just to add, my Laptop is an HP 15-DA1027NF, not sure if there's issue with its USB ports specs and architecture ... 🤔
In any case : https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c06355775

Well, it seems I have to dig with specific issue on Windows 11 with this Laptop, as Arduino IDE throwing similar issue
So, not an Air Manager concern 👍

Still being happy if someone have an idea, or already seen similar behavior on Windows 11 only ?

Ok, just found the fix for the Arduino IDE, have to go in Devices Manager, opened the COM port properties, gone in Port Settings tab, clicked on <Advanced> button and checked "Enabling the Serial Port Enumerator (SerNum)" (Enabled) together with going into Configuration Panel / System and Security / Power Options / Change plan settings / Change advanced power settings / USB settings / USB selective suspend setting ste disabled for Plugged in and On battery entries

Sorry for this French version screenshot :

Now have to understand and find a solution for flashing in Air Manager, any cue is welcome !!!???

Eventually found the solution, on Windows 11 we have to install this driver for CH340 : CH341PAR.EXE (in place of CH341SER.ZIP), which is targeting Applications specifically for use with these specs : "USB to JTAG/SPI/I2C/Parallel/GPIO interfaces installation driver and DLL library for Windows, supports CH341 for USB to SPI/I2C/EPP parallel/MEM parallel etc.,supports CH347 for 480Mbps high speed USB to JTAG/SPI/I2C/GPIO etc., supports 32/64 bit Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7/VISTA/XP/2000, Server 2019/2016/2012/2008/2003. Microsoft WHQL/HCK Certified. Used to facilitate the integration of product applications."

https://www.wch-ic.com/downloads/CH341PAR_EXE.html

Now Flashing working in Air Manager on Windows 11 🙂😎

Just to mention the issue came again today due to a connection to a different USB port, the COM number has switched from COM13 to COM3. So the parameter has to be tuned again, as mentioned previously and I've checked it's not persistent after a computer reboot. So, still have to find a workaround to make this parameter applied in any case, which ever would be the COM port ...
Windows 11 is definitely a weird thought OS, was working so nicely with Windows 10 ... Wondering what their devs teams expecting there, it looks like stability wasn't enough for them 🤔

Therefore the Raspberry Pi Pico is a lot easier. No hassle with COM ports.

Interest suggestion Ralph 👍, however it may bring dozen of Arduino devices obsolete on my side ... 😉
Not took that much time on Raspi yet, though I hope I will be able to make some testing at some point on the Pi 5

Hi guys, the pi 5 (and earlier) are horrible in the context of I/O
The pico is really nice though, but if you want I/O quantity go for the nucleo 144 :D - unfortunately only messageport att the moment. The basic pico is definitely a winner. ;)
Nice work on the drive Gilles.
Always worth tryinh windows update for drivers as well as it is really REALLY good at the moment.

Thanks Joe for the reminder, I think I will have a go with the Nucleo 144 for much huge projects
Not already made a step towards the Pico, should be interesting to start some experiment with it too 👍
