Using trademarks on gauges

#1 Post by wohnlich »

It's probably more a question to Sim Innovations's management, @Ralph :

With additional scrutiny in my workplace about using trademarked content, it occured to me that on some instruments AirManager is showing trademarked content, e.g., manufacturer logos.
I'm not a lawyer, but afaik in a strict legal sense, a company like Sim Innovations can't simply use another company's trademarked artwork without a license or permission, even more so if it's for commercial reasons (like it would be for S-I).

I've created a nice Beechcraft Staggerwing airspeed indicator, but I hesitate to submit it because I don't want to expose SimInnovations (or myself) for legal action (fee-based seize-and-desist letters are a popular source of income for shady attorneys in my country) just because it has the Staggerwing and Beechcraft logos on it.

Any guidance on that?
