Video_stream_add

#1 Post by Mickolodias »

So I was looking up the API for some things and found https://siminnovations.com/wiki/index.p ... stream_add for AM4.2
I'm suddenly all giddy inside! :o  :geek: :D :D

Very interesting, but what would you use it for ? (I have never used a G1000 or similar so there may be some need for video - but of what ?)

Joe,

I suspect it to be used instead of pop outs

We’ll that’s just it.
Running a G1000 without the pop out menu bar at the top.
But more so - AM needs a bit of precious GPU power. I’m hoping with this I can offload AM completely to another machine - I don’t at the moment so I can use G1000 or G430 with AM instruments around it

Hi,

Xp12 has the ability to read the screen instruments.
This feature is for AM4.2 and up only.

Thanks guys,
even more interesting...
I must confess that I still don't see where streaming video fits in especially in the context of a pre-determined file, however there must be a perceived need or it would not have been developed. I would be really interested in a real world usage scenario.
As for AM taking resources, well certainly yes it will to varying degrees depending on what you are doing but it doesn't take any special GPU to run it.
Why can't you offload that now Mickolodias ?, as in run it on a different PC ?
A quad monitor output machine for AM is available for around 100 to 150 euros. Then you have the USB to HDMI converters for 8 euros each.
Or do you have some specific reason to run all on one machine ?

Keith, the XP12 reading screen instruments - more intrigue :) - can you elaborate please ? -

Hi,

Yeah, X-plane 12 has a new feature where you access the texture for certain avions devices.
AM 4.2 will use this to incorporate such a texture into an instrument.

So yeah, as far as X-plane is concerned, no more popouts.
And yes, you can also stream to other devices, like tablets.

Still testing this a bit, but it all seems quite stable and performing well.

My goal is to have an AM 4.2 BETA available within the coming two weeks,

Corjan

If I’m flying the Vskylabs R66, SR22, SR50 - the g1000 is a core part of the instruments.
So my second monitor becomes the instrument panel. AM need to run on the same machine so I can display other instruments around the G1000.

But if with this video stream (as @cojan mentioned) - the G1000 itself can be displayed on a remote machine - which I’ll connect to that monitor.

In terms of GPU - on my Mac m1 AM wants a good 10-15%
Xp12 wants all of it plus some!
(Time to get a windows machine just for x-plane lol)

This is truely awesome!!!
@Puukka ’s Citation X instruments could totally use this as well.

@jph Possibly this paves the way for custom hardware glass instruments using an Rpi!
@Corjan oooooo - by tablets… do you mean…. Ipad/android support as well!?
