Instrument click problems with Trackpad

I've been having trouble with clicking buttons for ages. (m1 macmini monetrey, apple trackpad)
It seems to be related to the trackpad.

Click Button - it activates
Push a little harder (triggering the force click), it activates
Release, no action as excpected
Move mouse (place finger on trackpad to start), it activates

This happens even with Tap to click and force click deactivated in the system settings.
I don't have a mouse to try with, but using my laptop to control the M1, no problems, the mouse behaviour is correct.
It appears to be an with issue java overaccepting the local trackpad inputs.
