General question: how to "apply" settings

If I change settings, i.e. in a instrument (i.e. background display) or in Ident Plate, I change Callsing, how I have to apply changes?

I wish to change background color of a grey instrument (cessna 172) to black, Background display is the correct way?

By adjusting the settings, there's no separate apply action required.
