Can someone explain FI / AM relationship?

#1 Post by Kaellis991 »

I have a few FI instruments and I see that AM has some sort of connection to FI but I dont understand how they relate.

Hi,

We create software for Flight Illusion.

About 1,5 year ago we made the next version of G-Step for them, and we also added FI instrument support into AM.

So how can that affect the custom instruments and the controller I purchased from them?
Is there something for me to do that adds to or helps with what I have?

Hi,

Not sure what your question is exactly.
Both G-Step and Air Manager can be used to connect your instruments to the flight simulator.

With Air Manager, you have a bit more flexibility in the fact that you can create your own custom scripts to drive the instruments.

The controller board I purchased and the configuration setup I did does the connecting to the flight sim.
Are you saying I could have used AM with an arduino for the instruments and didnt need to buy the controller board?

You always need the controller board.

Hi,

The hardware stays the same. It is only the software that has changed.

Oh, okay. I never could determine what all of that is about from the information on this forum.
Is the AM software uploaded to the controller and overwrites what came with it?
Is it a different configuration interface from the default that I used to setup my instruments?

I have (2) brand new custom gauges and a transponder from FI. Just got them hooked up and working on Christmas day.
However, one gauge has a hardware problem in that the second needle is installed incorrectly and is off by about 125 degrees.
The transponder is having a weird software issue that I could not fix with all the configuration work I did.
It may be possible that AM can fix it but I have a call into Matthjis at FI to see if he can help me sort it out when he gets back on the 3rd.

No we do not write anything to the board. You can use everything with either Gstep or Air Manager.

Our software does not allow for any calibration, because that should not be necessary. But with these kinds of issues you will have to contact Flight Illusion.

I have contacted Fi.
Both gauges required calibration. I assume all of that calibration I went through was with G-step.
