Crazy until the last corner, just the way you would want it to be.
Well we all enjoyed.

We need a F1 GP in ZAR.
Wonder if I can afford?? :(

@Keith Baxter @Corjan
Who do you feel are the next up and coming future champions or top class racers ?
We can all see that Max and Hamilton are way ahead of the field. Generally the best way to see that is with reference to their performance against their team mates. This year has been a bit of a strange one though as Valtteri was crapped on by mercedes by them sacking him late in the season - which corresponded to his performance drop off and also Checo not being in the same league as max albeit that he is a damn good consistent driver placed in a damn good car - yet, unable to be close to Max.

Anyway, now this season is over. Has anyone stuck out in your mind as a potential star ?

For me it is Yuki Tsunoda. In a year or two the guy will be a star. He has the very rare abilities of people like Max, Prost, Senna, Schumacher to push and go for it and not be too upset when it goes wrong. The raw talent is outstanding. I can see him in the top team at RBR in a couple of years.
The other guy is Lando Norris but the only thing that lets Lando down imho is the lack of 'killer instinct' but he seems to be learning rapidly. A truly amazing driver but a bit 'too nice'. Very much like Alex Albon. Alex is a truly amazing talent but is also 'too nice' to go for the top.
They are my two - Yuki and Lando - if Lando bolts on a larger pair of brass balls.

I was well impressed with George Russell at the end of last year when he shoehorned himself into hamiltons car and simply aced the track and would have blown everyone away apart from the horrendous mistakes by the merc pit crew and the puncture, yet he seems to have dropped off severely this year with Latifi owning him in the latter part of the year.

The new rules next year will be a thing to behold. 98 days to go. ;)

Now Honda needs to tune that baby :) I'm not an expert, I haven't seen anything from F1 so far. But it seems to me that if Max gets to drive a car which is as fast as the Mercedes, no one stands a chance.

Hi Ralph.
Speed comes in several forms with the engine playing a HUGE factor. There are other massive influences on speed as well.
Honda 'officially' leave F1 this year so the IP and development has been transferred to Red Bull Powertrains, a new division https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_Powertrains has already been established and all teams agreed to implement an engine development 'freeze' until 2025. There is some leeway though - especially with fuels - and also the regs re parts that are ' specifically non reliable ( a very abused section of the rules - especially by Mercedes this year that allowed 'parts modified for 'reliability' issue to be changed which was strange as it also coincided with their increase in power Hmmmmmmmm. - but fair play if they can play the system and get away with it!) - that allow substitution and of course all teams will find loopholes.
The majority of the Honda racing engine development team are also transferring to RBT and I know for sure there are MANY talks going on with specialty manufacturers to poach the best of the best talent and engineering skills. Mercedes themselves only make an engine in their own name. The simply bought the UK specialist race engine team Ilmor Engineering. The merc power unit (ICE - internal combustion engine) unit has never seen Germany!. This is then a similar arrangement where Honda F1 engine development was bought out by RB and due to the amazing success in development of the power unit Honda didn't really have any objections. RB are looking towards the famous Cosworth developer in the UK to also poach some talent and also from JE as well as metallurgists and aero space and hybrid specialists although Honda aerospace Jet engine department were and still (IP AND development wise) be playing a huge part in the MGU-H which is THE most complex and expensive and technically challenging part of the whole unit. The MGU - H is part of the overall engine regenerative power generation for the hybrid section and is - in very basic terms - a turbo charger driving a generator to charge the batteries which in turn can drive the turbocharger when needed. A MASSIVELY complex piece of engineering. The other recovery unit is the MGU-K which is the Kinetic unit effectively driven via the rear wheel. This kinetic and turbo recovery can generate bursts of up to 160 to 180 BHP when needed. Yikes.
One of the huge difference between Merc and RB is in the actual design philosophy of the cars due to 'rake angle' of the whole chassis design where merc run a fairly 'flat' car and RB run a car which is higher from the ground at the rear by considerably more than the merc. This can have dramatic effects in certain areas by being able to run a higher drag wing - front and rear - which will push down the whole rear suspension and rotating the side aspect around the front axle at high speed that effectively lowers the wing angles and drag, but as soon as the car brakes or slows the rear suspension lifts due to decrease in pressure hence rotating the car around the front axle which increases downforce both at the front and rear for the lower speed section. It is all swings and roundabouts though as the differences in cars make for VERY different driver skill needs. It waits to be seen next year what happens as the rules are interpreted by the teams and the cars hit the road. Whatever happens, if the cars are relatively even across the board to start with then the skill of the drivers shows through even more than now. Max and Hamilton are WAY ahead of the rest of the field as has been seen this season where they leave their teammates and simply surge ahead by seemingly superhuman effort. It is a terrific sport due to the technicalities as well as the driver skill and is definitely not a 'one design' sport which goes against the whole ethos. It is basically a nerd's dream :lol:
You will have to get yourself in front of the TV with a tinny or 3.
