Where to Place the Preview Images for Panels?

#1 Post by Tetrachromat »

Having created some new panels I also did the preview images from live in sim screenshots. But I could not find the locations to save them to.

Anybody knows the procedure how to save preview images for custom panels?

Hi,

Just have a look at one of the existing panels, that will explain it.

@Keith Baxter My panel root folder does NOT contain a 'layouts' folder. It only contains
- lib
- resources
- info.xml
- logic.lua

@Corjan
I checked an existing panel folder, yes it contains a 'layouts' folder. OK, do I have to create the folder manually?
Inside the 'layouts' folder there are subfolders with the UUID's (of the layout I suppose) with preview and background images. How do I get the UUID's of layouts?

Then indeed create it yourself. You can get the UUID by right clicking on the layout in the info window.

@Ralph @Tetrachromat @Keith Baxter

I've been wanting a feature like this for some time. I haven't found any description of this functionality in the wiki, only through reverse engineering. Automatically creating these folders and their subfolders shouldn't be that difficult.

I tried this manual procedure. It works.

But every time I make major changes to the panels in the 'Home' page, I add the layouts again to the existing panel in the 'Development' page, deleting the old ones. Kind of a local backup, as well as a preparation for an external backupp (siff export, migration...). But the UUID's for the layouts change. I have to redo the same manual. This is a PITA.

Edit:
[HACK] You can add a preview image through the 'Panel Information' DIalog. In the 'Display' section add the PNG file as a 'Background Image'. AM creates the folders and adds the image as 'background.png' file. But you need to rename it manually as 'preview.png' in the folder.

Why not create here an option to do the same for a preview image? Shouldn't be that hard to implement.

In any case from the Home tab, if any change is made on the Panel in Dev mode, we have either to delete or re add a new panel in order to take changes in account. This was still the same behavior already from the start in AM

Indeed we have to copy the background.png to preview.png in order for the Layout to show it properly when adding the panel in home tab
@Corjan or @Ralph could decipher for us better than me why it has been made this way. Still the same, it has always been this way, not an AM 5 thing in any case
Just like here for instance, where I've change tint to better show :

Background and preview are entirely different things. Preview is just a preview image of the panel for that specific layout. Background, as it says, is the background image.
