Air Player + Knobster on Rpi 4 - High latency for touch + knobster.

#1 Post by ricardo »

I setup a rpi 4 (with 4gb), it is driving 2 touch screens at 1080P, and has a Knobster connected too.

Installed Air Player on the rpi, and got my instruments running. But i ran into two problems

1 - selecting instruments with touch for the knobster had high latency (it would be seconds after i had touched when the knob was finally highlighted and could be actuated).

2 - turning the knobs on the knobster had very high latency on actually changing the instrument

and (3) the small inner knob did not do anything.

The RPI Was connected over wifi .. and i also tried connecting it over an ethernet connection.

I'm pretty sure i missed something and misconfigured something -- wondering if this rings a bell for anyone and you have some ideas of what might help.

i would try config.txt to add arm_boost=1 if not present already.

also, on my pi at the moment, when not using / presenting screen, air player is already using 60 % cpu... so there might be some issues at the moment with air player 5 with rasp 4b using raspos...

using sd card, i would ensure that you have the highest speed sd card on the board.

at least a XC II, give your pi the max ressources you can, so stop any unecessary soft, service. to minimize ram and cpu foot print.

i might add, if router become an issue, make the cable connected with the computer directly if you can bypass the router... to rull this out... make a private network from PI to computer w/o router.
