Knobster Not Connected

#1 Post by Chris »

I've been using Knobster with X-Plane without issues. I've loaded up MSFS and downloaded and installed KnobFS (it shows up in the MSFS menu). When clicking on it, I get the message, "Knobster not connected." The forum description states that Knobster "version 2" is required. I cannot figure out how to determine which version of Knobster I own. Where would that information be found (MS Control Panel/Device Manager just lists some 14 "generic" USB devices)?

The V2 knobster is the one that is sold now. If yours is a homemade DIY version or you bought one of the original knobsters way back then you have an incompatible unit. I'm to guess on time here but if you bought an official knobster in the last couple of years it should be a V2.

Do you have Air Manager running as well?

Just a suggestion : these all non ending stories where AM products line users can't achieve on connecting Knobster, could be solved by adding an in-build process which would trigger a signal between KnobXP/KnobFS on one side and Air Manager/Air Player on the other side, which eventually would trigger a popup (with related optional setting saying display popup or not), allowing the user to select/switch between KnobXP/KnobFS and Air Manager/Air Player choice ... So the forums will eventually not be filled with thousands of same duplicated request 🤔 :D

[EDIT] Or even simpler, an optional setting defining the priority on user taste : either KnobXP/KnobFS, or Air Manager/Air Player handling priority, so the user just only has to remember his own taste/setting

Yes, my standard panel that I've been using with X-Plane for many months is up and running. I'm running the generic Garmin G1000 Overlays by Russ Barlow ver 1.25 (for both X-Plane and MSFS). I do, however, notice that even using the touchscreen directly, and with a mouse, there is no response on my panel (though the dials do turn yellow when I touch them and click on them).

KnobXP / KnobFS and Air Manager are not meant to run together. KnobXP and KnobFS are made for VR. Only one application at a time can use the Knobster.
