Reed sensor understanding : distance measurement extrapolation from numeral AT unit

#1 Post by SimPassion »

Hi all, I'm currently on maintenance on Fuel selector physical hardware instrument which has been build by the initial designer, based on the Standex Meder Electronics MK06-5-C K4/1

My concern is to retrieve the max read distance ability or extrapolate from the initial AT unit used to measure the specs of such component, where AT means Ampere-Turns, which indeed doesn't help that much when it come for the distance for reading

https://comus-intl.com/what-does-at-mean/

So, in the mentioned physical Fuel selector which was build with 3D printer, by the original designer, 3 of this component are used, one for OFF position, one for LEFT tank position and one for RIGHT tank position and in this case speed of turn doesn't matter, as the selection is done by hand manually in a max 180° turn with OFF in 0° position between LEFT -90° position and RIGHT +90° position. So only the distance between each read sensor and the magnet, located inside the plastic shaft, matter.

Question : is anyone able to point me out to a link reference on the web, which explain simply and clearly on how to extrapolate the max distance for reed sensor distance reading based on its AT range specs ?
