Looking in the app store SpaceDesk has a minimal amount of reviews. I do see a similar app called Duet Display. Would that work in place of SpaceDesk?

It is similar. I do not know if one is better than the other.

Duet and Spacedesk both do the same thing. Spacedesk is currently free (although will become payware in the future once it's out of beta). And it will run on any device. Duet is for iOS only, although the server runs of various platforms. And it's payware.

In terms of operation, they do exactly the same thing.

well, I wouldn't go THAT far ;)
they both use stacks of resources and produce only 'reasonable' results.
