Using a High Definition display with RPi.

#1 Post by Peter Dobson »

Hi Ralph,

Just bought myself an RPi 3 B (not Plus) and a 6 inch high res. display. My reasoning is to run the EFD1000 professional panel on the Pi as a stand alone instrument and use the GPIO to receive button presses and Inc. Encoder inputs from the EFD1000 panel. I have tried playing with the graphics parameters but so far have failed to get this display to work with the Pi. Just wondered if anyone else had used such a display with the Pi??

Display details:
Wisecoco 1440p 6 Inch hdmi display. (Perfect size for the real EFD1000).
1440 x 2560 Pixels
60Hz.
8 bit.
RGB format.
Colour spacing SDR.

I can make it all work with a Geeforce GTX1080Ti and the EFD1000 Panel.

Any help or input much appreciated. BR, Peter Dobson.

Is it connected through HDMI? Maybe you need some specific settings in the general Pi configuration? The maximum resolution of the Pi is 1920x1080, so it won't run in the native resolution of the screen.

Hi Ralph,

That is a real disappointment. Yes I am using HDMI. I was hoping to use hdmi_group=2 and hdmi_mode=87. and set the pixel size manually. Unfortunately the display only operates in native resolution mode as far as I can tell. Despite playing with these parameters I could not get the display to work so hoped there might be another parameter in set up I had missed.

So are you suggesting that there is an alternative way of connecting the display to the RPi??

It a real shame if there is no way forward as on the 1080Ti the EFD1000 look amazing.

The hardware limit of the Pi is Full HD, so 1920x1080. If the display doesn't accept a different resolution, then I don't know of any thing that could solve this. Did you try running it at half the resolution? So 1280x720?

Hey Ralph,

You are a genius. That works on the GTX1080Ti so I must be able to transfer the appropriate settings to the RPi.

In which case:
Eu30 for a 3D printed bezel panel.
Eu40 for PCB with switches and rotary encoders
Eu79 for the High Res screen.
Eu35 for an RPi.
Eu30 for Air player.
Eu10 for EFD1000 panel.
a bit of metalwork to hold it all together and I have a stand alone high resolution EFD1000. How cool is that!!!!

I can't guarantee that it works :) But it's worth a try.
