Pi Player can not find X-Plane. Air Manager can not find Pi Player

#1 Post by Patrick841 »

I have both the Windows Air Manager and the Pi Air Player on the same network.
I can ssh to the Pi from the Windows computer.

Air Manager can connect to X plane on the same computer.
However on the list of device it only shows the IP of my router with a question mark, not the Pi.

On the Pi display, it shows discovered X-plane with the IP of my router, not my computer.

Is there a way in Air Manager to enter the IP address of the Pi manually?
Is there a way in Pi Air Player to enter the IP address of the X-Plane manually?

Why can't they connect to each other and see the router as a valid X-Plane device? Is the software only checking for a specific open port without even verifying what the device is answering properly?

Yes, they are both on the same subnet. And each can ping the other as I wrote....
The problem is there is a router in between. If I am using a simple stupid hub the software can find each others, but on a routed network they can't.

So my question is can we manually set up the addresses or improve the discovery process so it would work on a routed network?

Routed networks work. Most people use a router as their main hub. The problem is not all routers behave the same. You might be able to play with its settings to get it to play nice else you might have to change it out.

Your router is probably blocking the discovery messages (UDP broadcast). Maybe there's something in your router settings to allow UDP broadcast.
Or it happens on a specific port which you can open. But the internet lists a wide variety of ports, so I'm not really sure which port that should be.

Yes and that is my initial question: how the discovery process works exactly? Or can we enter manually an IP address for each devices to bypass the discovery entirely?
