Reccomdations for a touch screen

#1 Post by anothergene »

I'm using a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and I'd like to add a touch screen for my instruments. Does anyone have a recomendations of which monitors would work? 20"+ Is the real estate I'm looking for. More importantly, any recommendations of ones to stay away from? One other question, how does the screen get the touch input back to the pi? USB?

Sorry to put a downer on your idea but i’d have to say good luck with that. My touch screen connects via usb as do most others of the size you mentioned. It’s plug’n’play on windows but doesn’t work with Airplayer for Rpi. It’s one of the reasons why I ditched using a Rpi, that and a lack of descent frame rate. The Rpi 4 may improve things but i’ve decided on a non Rpi solution.

Just my findings. Others may have a different take.

Touch screens should work on the Raspberry Pi, they do work in our office. But it greatly depends on if the touch chip is supported by the operating system, and that's of course hard to say.

Ralph,

Perhaps you should start a list on the wiki of known working and not working touch monitors. It would be useful info for anyone who is considering a new monitor purchase.

I might give mine another go at some point.

I only know 2. Maybe the touch chip, although that might be hard to find out in some occasions.

That would be a good start to know and us users can contribute to the lists. I will double check mine again before I commit to saying my model does not work.
