Rpi 4

#1 Post by Sling »

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has one of these and a 3B who can do a direct Air Player performance comparison. I dismissed the 3B because it’s just not powerful enough for what I needed. I hope the Pi 4 is a good step up.

Hi,

Interesting stuff.

From what I have read, the GPU is about 50% faster then the latest Pi 3. That is certainly interesting for running Air Panel.

Also, it seems that a new OS has been released, so don't expect our Pi 3 image to run on the Pi 4.
I will have to look into updating the image.

I also have to see if I can find a way to support both HDMI ports.

Hi everyone,

I guess some AP users tried the RP4 and I'm also pretty curious if the new Pi is capable of boosting up the fpm rate to a higher level then 18-20.
Or does AP need a yet to come update to run on a RP4?

I guess the dev team from Sim Innovations is testing it intensely to make sure this combination will work out great, too.
I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

Kind regards
MP

Yes i’d Also be interested to hear anything on the Rpi 4 when anyone gets round to doing some comparison testing with the 3B.

Hi,

Couple of weeks ago, I managed to make a build for the Raspberry pi 4.
The frame rate seemed to be increased by about 40%, nothing to spectacular though.

From a technical standpoint, quite a bit has changed between the pi 3 and pi 4. It will take me a while to get a new image that will support both.
Also, I don't think I will support both HDMI ports in the first version just yet.

Thank you for taking a deeper look into this!
40% is definitely someting, from my point of view.
A RPi coming closer to 25 or even more is a nice gain in a sim.

Yeah, the Pi4 is brand new so patience is advised.
I guess your customers will be more happy with a stable version than one that was released in a hurry.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Corjan,

I know you are up to your eyes, but any news on an R-Pi 4 image release soon??
I want to use the Pi 4 to drive the professional EFD1000 instrument an try and make it completely standalone.
I read somewhere there was to be a revision update for the EFD1000 too, or have I got that wrong??

There's a new version since July.
RPi 4 image comes this month I think. The problem is that it might have to be a separate image for the 4, but rather not...
