Best MiniPC to buy for Air Player?

#1 Post by Luca Piergentili »

Hello,
I'm planning to buy a secondary pc to use on the network.
I was thinking of buying a MINIPC to attach behind a touchscreen Monitor. Is it better than a Raspberry Pi4?
Do you guys have any suggestions/feedbacks on which one is the best for 150/200$?

As an example, I was looking at this one:

Thanks :)

A Raspberry Pi is an option as well, but a Windows PC might be easier to operate and maintain. The one you mentioned looks decent. You can also use an Intel Compute stick, but they can be more expensive depending on the model you choose.

I guess the specs will tell the answer. I doubt a Rpi will be able to compete though with a $200 computer. I understand the Rpi 4 is better than my 3b but I gave up on my 3b for AP because it just couldn't cope. It was running sometimes in the 12-15FPS range. Also the support for peripherals such as a Touch screen will be better with the miniPC IMHO.

I agree. The Pi 4 is better than the 3, but at full HD it will still be below 30 FPS.

Hi, I just received the minipc and the touch screen monitor.
I am uploading a couple of pictures to show you the performance of this little box.

As you can see:
MAIN PC is running:
-Big Sony 32" TV
-Xplane
MINI PC is running:
-Two screens: one touch (Full HD), one non-touch (HD)
-ZHSI: four displays
-AirPlayer: most of the instruments all together on the touchscreen.

I'm pretty impressed as the framerate for both the softwares is between 18-20. The negative side is the CPU usage which fluctuates bewtween 90/95%. I guess the processor is a little bit underpowered.
I might return it and try with something a little bit more powewrful, just not to overload the CPU... I don't want any fire in my bedroom ahahaha.

This is the link of the one I bough:
