Universal Avionics EFI-890r

#1 Post by brodhaq »

Hello,
some preview from my dev. Currently I am working on UNIVERSAL AVIONICS EFI-890r for X-Plane. Expected features:

* fully independent displays for pilot and copilot
* all display modes fully simulated as per real handbook
* failures of all sensors available
* cross-instrument communication (compare systems, revert systems)
* all external controls as separate AM instruments (one Combined Display Control Panel for each pilot, common Dual Course Heading Panel, feet/metric switch)
* connection to other aircraft switches (each display can be turned off separately, each display computer can be turned off separately, etc)

Those displays will match the actual custommer setting as per L410 airplane, but are generic and can be used in any other type. Reference speeds on the tape are dynamic and can be changed as required.

Pictures are actual Air Manager screenshots, all what you can see works with X-Plane. MENU logic still to be done, as well as all navigational functions.

Slowly getting there. Doing menu logic is fun, so much of local variables and elseif conditions, timers, visible's, etc :D Today about 13 hours spent on this.

Normally it runs at 60FPS, only the CamStudio recorder messed the video so it looks like a slideshow... What do you use for recording?

If you own a Nvidia graphics card (starting from GeForce 600 series)
there's ShadowPlayer, a feature available in Nvidia GeForce Experience

https://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/download
https://www.geforce.com/geforce-experie ... quirements

it's capable of capturing the audio and video,
is working flawlessly
and the capture rate is customizable
you'll only have to create an account on nvidia site to allow the launch of application set
it allow to publish video on Nvidia Shield repository (but not mandatory to send to Nvidia Shield)

We use OBS studio: https://obsproject.com/download
It looks a bit overwhelming at first, but it does what it should do. But if you have something native from Nvidia then that would work good as well I guess.

You're building a complete GUI with drop down menu's :) I noticed that he viewport on the altitude (ten feet) isn't correctly aligned with the box. Keep up the good work and curious to see video's at the good frame rate :D

Starts to look right! Running on Raspbery Pi. Still need to interface that (self-designed) efis control panel to the arduino.

I like your attention to detail. Thumbs up!
Will you share it in the store? :)

I hope we will. But we will have to talk to SimInnovations staff first to sort some things out. But most probably there will be some public version from us. Note this is not fully finished yet, some navigation features are still missing (but the most important stuff is working just fine).

Some update here... TCAS working :-) All TCAS logic running under Air Manager. Still some work to do (especially displaying required vertical speed on the VSI, but that will be easy).
