EFIS 85

#1 Post by marcel_felde »

After a long time I want to continue with the Collins EFIS 85 project. 8-)

The MFD is already working with many features for nearly two years. But for PFD and ND we still use the Aspen avionics - which is working but not very realistic.
Documentation is here as well as the original hardware. But the software will be redone with Air Manager.

Very nice. Please post more pictures and videos when you have them :) Fits great into the original housing.

Will do, Ralph!

Both units are converted and connected to Air Manager. They work great so far!

For the Arduino only USB is needed. The electrical connectors on the left are for the internal lighting.

I did clone the displays - quick and dirty - for testing.

I do have a lot of manuals on the EFIS 85 - and also it is so old, it is so complex. So only very basic features are implemented for now. And I am still learning doing it the "canvas-style". The only png-graphics are for the display effects.

I did upload the Instruments today in our simulator. Also everything is looking fine on the PC, I have a problem with the displays on the Raspberry PIs: As soon as a canvas is used with "_fill" - the whole are is filled with that color. For example the small white aircraft symbol is a white square. Did anyone else experience this?

I did with the Boeing vertical speed. Somehow the Pi does not like concave shapes. You can either build it from multiple shapes, or replace it with an image.

Thanks, will try it with the multishape - and to avoid images. :)

Added the option to have a airspeed-tape on the left instead of the slow/fast indicator. Different speeds on the image are caused due to a failure in the copilots pitot tube. :)

Does it give a warning in that case? The Boeing PFD shows a disagree message when the difference is an X amount of knots.
