DC6 BMEP gauges

#1 Post by olof »

I am really enjoying the PMDG DC6 in FS2020.
And I am building an AirManager panel for it.
So far I have working gauges for all 4 engines but I would like the BMEP gauges to work as well. Basically call for 3 and 4 instead of left and right or 1 and 2, this works for most of the gauges.
Does anyone know what variables you need to subscribe to fo BMEP (brake mean effective pressure), these are very important on the old radials.
I did some searching but have not found any answers yet.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You can find Lvars when you turn on the developer menu. I'm not really sure where, it's somewhere in a menu with a tree view.

I have not found the BMEP Variable yet in.
But everything else you see in the photo below works.
Next I will customize the dials to look like the ones in the plane, but this works great for now.

Hi
you can always recreate the BMEP via other means.
A quick search yields to the BMEP value related to Torque

BMEP=2๐œ‹๐‘›๐‘Ÿ๐‘‡๐‘’/๐‘›๐‘๐‘‰๐‘‘ (in Pa)
With nr being the number of crankshaft rotation per revolution (could be 1 on a radial engine, or 2)
Te being the Torque (could be retrieved from the sim via ENG TORQUE:index) (in Nm)
Mc being the number of cylinders
Vd being the Volume of displacement of one cylinder (in m3)

Hope this helps

Thanks JACKZ,

I was hoping to find if PMDG has published a variable, as they have 4 of these dials in their panel.
I may have to do the math calk for each gauge.

In FSX and Prepar3D these variables weren't available as Lvar either. We had to make a special system to connect to the 737NGX. Each aircraft required a custom approach, therefore we did just one, as it was quite a lot of work. I suppose they do the same thing with FS2020.

Hi olof,

I am interested in building instruments for PMDG's DC6. I recreated the Airspeed instrument. Are you interested in a collaboration?

Sincerely

Hi Frank,
I am happy to share what I have done, very simple really.
You can contact me olof@westsideav.com. 603.387.4921.
It would be nice to be more authentic than what I have done, just edit a few standard gauges.

Yes, and since you are at it, you could replicate the "real" cockpit at the time, which has not been the case of PMDG apparently.

One can include the needle gauges vibrations, typical of an airplane of this era. I had published a tutorial on how to achieve this somewhere in the forum

Wow, that image is pure aircraft porn. :D
I cannot fail to absolutely love these types of early cockpits. They are utterly amazing. The DC3 is also out of this world. My total favourite of all time is the 737-200 it looks amazing and feels amazing. There is just something so 'harmonious'. Admittedly my only 'time' in a 737-200 was in a mode D (Level D) sim at United Airlines in Denver for a week in 2001, it was truly amazing. I was totally in awe.
