Garmin GNS430 from List "Community Instruments"

#1 Post by Frank_B »

Will the Garmin GNS430 GPS be usable with MSFS2020?
I see only the Icon "This instrument is compatible with X-Plane".
How is this icon to understand?

Many thanks and regards,
Frank

By the way: What means the text "Overlay" in the description "Garmin GNS 430 Overlay"?

Note for now. There are no events that work with FS2020. We'll probably make a work-around in version 4.1 or 4.2.

Any instrument that is titled with overlay is exactly that an overlay. This means its designed to sit over a popout GNS in the case you are asking about. The overlay gives AM control of all the bezel buttons and dials. The actual GPS display is generated by the Sim or another Plugin such as the RealityXP GTN series and shows through a transparent section of the overlay. Any sim wishing to do the same will need an instrument that can be popped out into an un-docked window and the control commands/events required to control every function of the popped out instrument. My understanding is that FS2020 is still lacking the ability to do this. FS2020 is more a game than a sim and will probably never reach the control and interaction possiblities afforded by Xplane.
