Re: yet another generic cockpit
Thank you for you comments. so something like this how "deep" should i make the glare shield EDIT: I might raise the TV a bit, butonly to increase the "visible area" I suggest you put the manual trim quadrant closer to the yoke, then the throttle quadrant, as it is the way it wo...

Re: yet another generic cockpit
Here's a picture of the lengthened Saitek Yoke, for you to get an idea. The Saitek shaft actual length is too short if not lengthened and the horn will touch the screen/panel. If using the proper diameter PVC evacuation type (use one with a thick internal tube) that fits snugly to the Saitek metal o...

Re: yet another generic cockpit
A 24 inches tactile monitor (Iiyama Prolite 2452MTS) is well suited to display all the Air Manager instruments, including the engine ones for a Twin like the B58, or a Radio stack in a single engine. I have put this monitor at the same level as the yoke, very close to the real position in the plane....

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
Thanks Corjan for the input Was pretty sure you used the FreeType font renderer, as it seems to be the most widely used rendering engine in OpenGL As for the conversion of texts position from 2.13 to 3.xx I was not thinking about a real conversion routine, but instead about trying to figure a simple...

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
Here's what I have found so far concerning the placement of texts in JavaFX. The Bounding Box (overall position of the text) is indeed related to the font metrics. In AM (JavaFX) the text is displayed by the text_add (text, style, x,y ,length, width) function, with x,y being the coordinates of the le...

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
Hmmm... I started to investigate this text display problem, and it appears that it's even more complicated than I figured at first. Texts are displayed in Java using what is called "Font Metrics", which are in fact internal dimensional properties of a specific font. These properties are de...

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
Russ You can use for this purpose the text test tool I developed for the 2.1 version, it already has the grid and can display whatever text. Using it, I figured that the anchor point for the JavaFx version is the top leftmost position of the bounding box of a text in CAPITALS and ACCENTED Letters (s...

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
Thanks Russ If I can understand the change of parameters used by the OpenGL version, what I don't get is why the change of text positioning. Is this offset constant, or related to a change of the anchor point of the text between JavaFX and OpenGL? Worth an investigation, if this can prevent a painfu...

Re: Air Manager 3.0 development updates
When talking about 3D effect, wasn't thinking of real 3D object, but merely a way to space unevenly the 1pixel high image used to of the wheel. If one could have the spacing varying from a set value of 100% at the center to nearly 0 at both edges, it would naturally emulate the 3D effect. As for the...
