If using the 28BYJ try upping the voltage. ! - in almost all cases it works. Also, make sure you check the steps per 360 degrees are ok as they are often NOT 4096.. - they can be 4086. I fully agree that calibration is definitely the best..... but........ you can check the steps with a very fine nee...
