In my opinion 100% go with the desktop version. This will allow you to create your own gauges and instruments and offers far far more flexibility. The ipad version does not allow you to create your own instruments or gauges. Note - the licences are not interchangeable

I don't know anyone who uses a 'mac'. That may be part of your issue. Send a support ticket into the company (SI). I think they may have a mac for testing. Most people use windows.
