Source for low profile rotary encoder and housing
When building an airmanager panel using a LCD display mounted close behind a "thin" panel board with circular cutouts to simulate an instrument panel with round gauges, what is the best way to install rotary encoders for instruments such as an altimeter or a DG, Heading Bug, HSI or VOR OBS? There is ...

Re: Garmin G5 Auto-slew
AFAIK, in a real airplane - autoslew in a EHSI is a result of the desired course that is transmitted from the GPS or FMS to the EHSI via ARINC 429. I have a dual G5 setup in my "real" Marchetti SF-260 fed by a GTN650 and autoslew works very nicely. Some time ago garmin added an autoslew software ...

ACCESSING REALITY XP GTN ANNUNCIATOR "DISCRETES"
Some time ago I came across this avsim forum posting regarding accessing the status of the WPT, TERM, INTEG, MSG, APR, TERR_WRN, TERR_CAUT, TRAFFIC indicators for a GTN installation. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/571322-gps-mode-enr-term-apr/ It describes a method for extracting this ...

How to determine if messageport is connected to AM/AP
Is there an easy way to determine if a messageport instance is connected to an AM/AP instrument from the Arduino side of things ?

Dual Displays on a Pi 4 using Air Manager Desktop
Per the wiki, air player for a Pi only supports one display. If I purchased the desktop version for linux and installed it on a Pi 4, would I be able to run Air Manager with two (reasonably sized) displays if I don't push the complexity too far?

Success with driving vintage Frasca Altimeter with a polou jrk G2 21v3 and messageport
After a great deal of trial and error I was able to get my vintage Frasca altimeter working with an Arduino UNO and a polou jrk G2 21v3 motor controller. The jrk is a nice piece of hardware. You can connect it via i2c to an Arduino and via USB to a windows machine at the same time. There is a nice ...

Success with messageport and CS4122 chips
So after some trial and error I was able to get my oddball vintage Frasca aircore instruments working with CS4122 driver chips, an Adruino UNO and messageport. They actually work pretty well and are quite accurate. The CS4122 needs a max of about 170ma of power at ~7V in to drive an aircore gauge in ...

AM 4.0 beta - only one messageport Arduino at a time
It appears the latest Air Manager beta will only connect to one Arduino messageport channel at a time. The 3.7 versions seem to work as expected. Multiple Arduinos messageport channels show up in the devices tab in Air Manager. Aside - is the architecture of Air Manager such that any usb connected ...

Re: Need bipolar (-5v...+5v) output to interface to vintage Frasca sim
After some more extensive research on the oddball sin/cos gauges - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emA93hcDrgg I have found out they are not so oddball after all. This technology was used extensively in the automotive world back in the 80s and 90s and was generically called “air core” and there are d ...
